At Southside Traditional Goju Karate Club we acknowledge that our teens go through a lot of changes during their adolescence and that there is a big difference between a 13 year old and a 17 year old. We have two structured teenage programs that run con-currently with each other and participation will depend on the student's age and physical ability.
Our Juniors program is specifically designed for those aged 13- 15 years and does not require as much retention of knowledge or weight training as compared to those who are aged 16-17 and participate in our Cadet program. The fundamental difference between the programs being that we work to develop students according to their age and ability, rather than having one expectation for all ages 13-17.
Teenage students training in the junior or cadet programs are still exposed to the entire Goju-ryu Karate system and will develop effective self defence skills, strength, fitness and confidence. Many of our students who begin in the teenage programs succeed in becoming black belts. We include plenty of variety in all of our classes and our sessions will have you practicing basic Karate techniques, traditional Kata's, supplementary training, self defence, Kata applications, pad work, free sparring, close quarters fighting, ground work and more.
The Dojos foster a very special community which is known among our teen and adult members as "the Karate family". In many instances the parents join their kids in training karate after they have seen the positive influences and results in their kids. You will be welcomed into the club, made to feel at home and supported by everyone there as you begin and continue your martial arts journey.
