Karate for kids

Karate program caters for children aged 5 - 12 years of age. The program's focus is on building a good moral character while at the same time developing effective self defence and traditional karate skills.

In each class, children are taken through a traditional karate warm up, which encompasses stretching, coordination, balance, strength and fitness drills. Following this, the practice of essential basic karate techniques are taught, along with kata (pattern or form) training. No one class is the same, as the instructors maintain variety by focusing on different aspects of karate during each session. A range of fun practices from self defence, controlled free sparring, stranger danger, to violence avoidance methods are taught during this time.

Unlike most schools, our children's programs do not take a militaristic approach. There is a mutual respect built between students and their instructors. Children are also asked questions to test their knowledge and are encouraged to ask questions to improve their understanding. Since we practice traditional karate, our aim is to place a higher priority on students improving themselves, rather than trying to beat others up all the time, so our focus is not on competition fighting. We do however hold one tournament each year for our members under the flag of friendship and goodwill, in order for students to develop other skills - participation though is purely optional.

Grading examinations are held on average 2-3 times per year at your local dojo, so there is no need to travel away for tests. Children also have the opportunity to participate in training camps in both Australia and around the globe, learning directly from some of the world's most senior masters who are more than willing to give their time to the needs of our children.

We pride ourselves on making the children laugh in every session and have them leaving our centre feeling confident and with a smile on their faces. Give your child a head start in life and build their confidence in our close, affordable and safe Dojo's. Book your Free trial today and find out more about the benefits of Karate.
